SysCAD Users Group Meeting
We had a successful SysCAD Users Group meeting in Perth early in October. Our thanks to everyone who attended and for the positive feedback. This was attended by approximately 40 users from 20 companies. We especially thank those users who provided presentations.
SysCAD Pricing and Maintenance
We update our SysCAD Pricing document annually during September each year. Everyones annual maintenance information has been sent out as have all the invoices. If your maintenance has not yet been paid or we have not received a purchase order you will not be able to access our downloads section. To those of you who have followed up with their maintenance please note that you have been issued with a new password. Please contact us if you have not received it.
What's New
Some of the new functionality implemented in the latest released version of SysCAD Build 126 is listed below: (For further information and more frequent updates see What’s New in online help)
- Significant improvements in options and display for Makeup Block (MU). This includes new options to control Product Temperature and obtain a specified temperature change. The Simple Control option has been replaced with new options called Product Flow, Product Composition and Product Concentration.
- Implemented new Insert Symbol command. This allows "dumb" graphics to be inserted without a mathematical model. An example of the use of this command would be to insert a border on a flowsheet.
- A SysCAD Reaction Editor is now available as described below.
- Implemented new Scheduled Events model for dynamic mode. This model can simulate downtime of a piece of equipment due to a scheduled event such as maintenance or plant shutdown. The model allows one tag to be set to different values depending on whether the unit is active or inactive due to a scheduled event.
- In dynamic mode, the reaction block can now act on (1) the sum of the feed streams (QFeed) to a model with surge (such as a tank), or (2) on the surge contents of the model. Refer to Reaction Block.
- Implemented new Single Variable Histogram and Bivariate Statistics models. These models can calculate, report and display statistical information about one or two variables. The statistical information can be displayed as a histogram (single variable) or a graph (two variables).
Reaction Editor
- Kenwalt's new SysCAD Reaction Editor is part of the release of Build 126. It allows easy creation and editing of reaction (rct) files. It can be used with existing rct files or to create new ones.
- The new editor contains a current list of species used in the project and allows species to be dragged and dropped to form new reactions. Options for extents, heats of reactions and so on are available as drop down options.
- Once a rct file is opened from SysCAD, all reaction files for the current project will be opened in the reaction editor, allowing complete reactions to be dragged and dropped from one rct file to another. Build 126 will automatically move all the project reaction files into a folder named “reactions” within the project folder.
- For more information on how to install and use the new Reaction Editor, see Reaction Editor.
Notes on upgrading SysCAD versions
- SysCAD updates are provided as a zip file of the SysCAD program files that can be unzipped to the bin folder to replace the existing version.
- The full SysCAD installation program is also updated from time to time, however this is less frequent than program updates. SysCAD can be installed over an existing installation.
- For users with custom SysCAD add-ons, they need to ensure that the correct version of these are downloaded (usually from SysCAD Basecamp) when SysCAD is updated.
- Due to the substantial changes made to makeup blocks, all makeups which were created in a build prior to 126 will need to be reconfigured. SysCAD will not allow the project to run until all makeups in the project have been checked and the ConfigChecked box has been ticked.
- For further information on upgrading SysCAD versions and installing updates refer to the online help.
Christmas Closure
- The Kenwalt SysCAD offices will be closed from Friday 21st December to Monday 7th January. If there are any urgent queries during this period, send an email to support@syscad.net and one of our support staff will contact you.
- We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our clients a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
